False positive in AMD64 CPU Assistant
« on: August 08, 2008, 08:57:46 PM »
avast! Home Edition version 4.8 WRONGLY recognise my product AMD64 CPU Assistant http://www.hexy.name/AMD64CPUAssistant.html as program containing trojan horse Win32:Trojan-gen {Other} . Help me, please.

Softpedia http://www.softpedia.com/progClean/AMD64-CPU-Assistant-Clean-98317.html guarantees that AMD64 CPU Assistant is 100% CLEAN, which means it does not contain any form of malware, including but not limited to: spyware, viruses, trojans and backdoors.
This software product was tested thoroughly and was found absolutely clean, therefore it can be installed with no concern by any computer user. However, it should be noted that this product will be retested periodically and the award may be withdrawn, so you should check back this page and especially the date of testing shown above.

You need to confirm one way or another -  check the offending/suspect file at: VirusTotal - Multi engine on-line virus scanner and report the findings here. You can't do this with the file securely in the chest, you need to extract it to a temporary (not original) location first, see below.

Create a folder called Suspect in the C:\ drive, e.g. C:\Suspect. Now exclude that folder in the Standard Shield, Customize, Advanced, Add, type (or copy and paste) C:\Suspect\* That will stop the standard shield scanning any file you put in that folder. You should now be able to export any file in the chest to this folder and upload it to VirusTotal without avast alerting.

If it is indeed a false positive, see http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=34950.msg293451#msg293451, how to report it to avast! and what to do to exclude them until the problem is corrected.

I would still say there is a good possibility it is an FP, so you need to submit the sample to avast as outlined in the link I gave to report it.
