Apple Software Update is the program that provides updates for QuickTime, iTunes, and Safari for Windows. If you have either of the Applications on your system you will want Apple Software update to be installed so you can receive updates to those, however, If you do not have any of these Applications on your system then there is no need to have Apple Software Update Installed.

On the other hand this very same updater will constantly nag you about software thats available but you don't have it installed.
Like crappy Safari that no one wants. Thats why i prefer using QTLite and FFdShow QuickTime filter and play all QuickTime files in Windows Media Player 11...

Actually it never nags yo about anything. The program doesnt even open until you launch it.  It has two separate panels, one that shows the Security and bugfix updates to software you already installed, and a separate panel for new software.

Safari is one of the most Standards compliant browsers there is, and far from "Crappy". First to pass the Acid 2 test, and beta released already pass Acid 3. If you dont like it then stick with whatever browser you prefer, but I wont have you Saying the browser is "Crappy", Just because that is your personal opinion doesnt mean its true.
