First what it is waiting for is MS Outlook (not express) and this Outlook-Exchange provider is off by default unless avast detects MS Outlook or the user enables it.

So do you have MS Outlook (and what version)_ ?

If not Terminate the Outlook/Exchange provider in avast and answer Yes to the question about persisting the changes.
Windows 10 Home 64bit/ Acer Aspire F15/ Intel Core i5 7200U 2.5GHz, 8GB DDR4 memory, 256GB SSD, 1TB HDD/ avast! free 24.3.6108 (build 24.3.8975.762) UI 1.0.801/ Firefox, uBlock Origin, uMatrix/ MailWasher Pro/ Avast! Mobile Security

Make sure the avast plugin is not disabled into MS Outlook:

Outlook 2007 > Tools > Trust center > Add-inns > Manage Disabled items.
Outlook 2003 > Help > About > Disabled items.
Outlook 2002 > Help > About Microsoft Outlook > Disabled items.
Outlook 2000 > Tools menu > Options > Other > Advanced Options > Add-In Manager.

Also, as David already said, the message "The provider is waiting on the subsystem to start" will be shown there until you open MS Outlook.
The plugin will be enabled automatically after that.

You'll see Roy...
Did you understand our previous post?
If you run Outlook, the plugin will start and the message "The Provider is waiting for a subsystem to start" will disappear...

hi,

sorry to raise this often repeated question, but i haven't found a thread with a simple solution to this problem.

I have 4.8 pro and as far as i can tell it has never started the subsystem that deals with outlook. it always says waiting for subsystem to start, virus emails seem to get through (particularly the recent zip attchment emails from UPS / Fedex etc). i have the contstant message 8 providers, 7 running above my avast icon.

I am running 4.8 pro, Outlook 2007 on vista, i have never had NAV or any other AV programme on this machine.

there is no add-in that mentions avast in outlook/tools/trustcentre/addins

i have restarted outlook many times

can you suggest a solution?

thanks

ben

You've already done and I've answered (try to) there.
