help, taskbar becomes inaccessible after avast free install
« on: August 17, 2008, 06:11:29 PM »
That is pretty much the problem. after installing and registering the latest free home version, the task bar is inaccessible, when I try to click on it windows just makes that "DING" sound as if the window is waiting or so on [It is called DEFAULT BEEP in sounds].
I've tried rebooting several times to no avail, and finally had to control escape to be able to access start/settings/add remove, and uninstall???
My system is an older dell pent 4 3.4gig
2 gigs ram
XP HOME EDITION
......
Has anyone ever heard of this problem?

Do you have any other antivirus in this computer?
Had in the past?

Is this the 'only' annoyance that you're experiencing?
I never heard before on this forums... ::)

Hi, thanks for responding, I've had prior to avast, avg free.

And yes this is the only thing that I can see that it is doing, but it is a show stopper.

I did just last night installed xp service pack 3 so I'll see if maybe that sorted anything.

I'm going to give it another shot tonight so hopefully it works?

I suggest an installation from the scratch:

1. Uninstall avast from Control Panel first.
2. Boot.
3. Download the latest version of Avast Uninstall and use it for complete uninstallation.
4. Boot.
5. Install again the latest avast! version.
6. Boot.
7. Check and post the results.
