Yes, but a firewall that isn't being actively developed isn't going to give you as much protection as one that is.

Here is a bit of advice from Matousec that is over looked:
Quote
You should try them (prospective firewalls) yourself and choose the one best for you, the one that you would be happy with, the one you would be able to configure and use everyday.

It's performance that counts not the label it wears.
I just do not trust in Symantec in any way...

Let's not forget that Symantec has a habit of buying products and then giving them their final exit from this world.
Fully agree.

I follow David point of view.

On Vista, keep Vista firewall.
You can configure outbound protection:
Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Windows Firewall with Advanced Security

While providing complete inbound AND outbound protection, by default, the Vista firewall does not contain any rules for controlling of outbound traffic. That is, every program is allowed to go out.

If you decide to define your own rules, make sure to enable

- avast.setup access on port 80 (http)
- ashWebSv.exe access on port 80 (http)
- ashMaiSv.exe access on ports 25 (smtp), 110 (pop3), 143 (imap4)

Configure Vista Firewall to support outbound packet filtering: http://searchwindowssecurity.techtarget.com/tip/0,289483,sid45_gci1247138,00.html

Or use Vista Firewall Control 32-bit: http://www.majorgeeks.com/Vista_Firewall_Control_32-bit_d5578.html

Comodo is the only one option...
Ok, others will suggest Armor Online.
I (myself) do not recommend PCTools anymore...

Yes, anyway, I'll reply to that saying that you can't have light protection. Vista FW is light protection and Comodo3 FW is heavy protection. In terms of protection, you'll sometimes have to sacrifice something. 8)
Heavy protection is sometimes an EXTRA.

ye ure right on that...i used to use comodo FW since version 2....but for a gamer...ram is the most important part of his pc..so i try to find the best protection with the lighter resources...i'm using avast now along with windows fw and spybot search&destroy on demand only...i think i'm ok..  8)

I still use it and still recommend it. It's working fine.
Why is every one getting excited over nothing ??? Until something changes, it's still the same firewall regardless of who owns it.

I agree with Bob. :)

I stopped using PC Tools fw in v.3 because it kept losing my internet connection.  In a thread in this forum Dan said he had the same problem & switched to another fw.

Now I see he is back to using PC Tools fw, so they must have fixed it.

I see no reason not to use PC Tools fw.

I went back to ZA after PC Tools fw v.3.  I have tried a great many different fw's.  I prefer ZA to any fw. :)  I plan on trying only one other fw, it's the one we all are waiting for!!! ;) ;D

I've tried many antiviruses , I prefer avast!. :)  I have no interest in trying another av!

PCTools FW is great on Vista and for those who already have it I'd say keep it. For those who would think to just install it for the first time, well the News about the fusion with Symantec are disturbing me. Tech also stated a few months ago how difficult it was to completely UNINSTALL PCTools FW from your system and the problems it gave in the installation of COMODO3 (happened to me) by interfering remnants. Then PCTools FW may be easy but it has fairly poor performance in the ratingshttp://www.matousec.com/projects/firewall-challenge/results.php ;D
