In the southeastern USA, BJ is a fairly common acronym/nick for men or women named Billy-Joe, Billy-Jean, Billy-John, Betty-Josephine, and probably more. My forum nick is just a misspelling of my real first name. ;)

One of my kids in laws was given the first name of "BJ"
That's what's on his birth certificate and has on more than one occasion
presented him with problems.
Try signing into you Soc. Sec. on line account with just initials. ( It can't be done)
He has been forced to make up a middle name just to do many of the things that require a name.
