Understanding avast.int file
« on: September 03, 2008, 04:00:14 PM »
File in question: ..alwill software\avast4\DATA\integ\avast.int

It appears that this file is being modified by avast very often, so after short period of avast software use, this file is stored on hard drive partitioned in more that 2000 fragments.
For relatively small HD (e.g. 20GB) filled up to 50-60% such heavy fragmented files (sized 20MB) become dangerous.

I was getting blue screens and about loosing my HD, but caught it just on time.
The recovery process was pretty much time consuming. I needed to move all removable data to external HD and then was able to de-fragment the volume, right after disabling avast. After successful de-fragmentation I moved my data back to HD.

My question is, can avast software take care of this file keeping it fairly continuous? It's not a big deal to patch it.

Thank you

My "C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\DATA\integ\avast.int" is only 272 bytes.

This is the VRDB database. It's not modified very often, only each 21 days (by default). But, until the database is finished, it is modified a lot (it could take some hours to finish).

Stop VRDB automatic generation and do it manually if you want.
