Help Please
« on: September 04, 2008, 03:52:58 PM »
I have just installed Avast and all is well - EXCEPT - when I try to load a web page that allows me to see a remote CCTV monitoring station that I own it will not load. If I disable Avast it loads perfectly and instantly. I believe this page runs an active X control ( or something Im not really good at these things ). Can I tell Avast to always allow this page to load or is there something else I should be doing. Any help I would appreciate it.

PS I removed my Norton half way through a two year paid subscription because it was soooooooooooooo sloooooooooooow. Avast is a dream compared to this

Many Thanks

avast does not mess ActiveX controls... It just scan the Internet traffic.
Maybe you should follow:
1) Remove NAV through Add/Remove programs from Control Panel. Boot.
2) Use Norton Removal Tool for Windows 2000/XP/Vista or Norton Removal Tool for Windows 98/Me. Boot.
3) Install avast! (or repair the installation) and boot.
The best things in life are free.

Thanks Tech.

I removed Norton very carefully and fully yesterday before rebooting and installing Avast. I used the latest uninstaller from Symantec website and followed all procedures. There is no trace of Norton anywhere on my PC now. Norton never caused me any hiccups with loading this specific webpage. All other websites are working fine. This one just will not load while I have Avast turned on. When I turn it off it loads perfectly. I dont believe there was any problem with the Avast installation it all went smoothly...any ideas. Whats meant to happen is when u go to the website a pop up login page appears. This is not loading with Avast on but it is with Avast off.

Thanks

I suspect that this streaming video/CCTV over the http port 80 may not be fully compliant with the HTTP protocol, so you can exclude it from being scanned by the Web Shield > Customize > Basic tab, Ignored addresses: and type in the IP address (not domain name) of the web site.
