Purchased Pro but..

Hey, lame question. My friend is out of town and he's said he bought AVAST PRO through the program / web here and got a license # and reference #, but he doesnt know where to input this number ...his AVAST version is still saying its expired ...i hope im understanding him right.
 any ideas?
