Cannot access Internet Explorer

Downloaded Avast Home Edition 4.8 and now I cannot access my Internet Explorer. I keep getting the message, "Internet Explorer cannot display this page."  How do I correct this?

ok heres you fix its avast! turn off resident protection and all will work fine. what i am telling you to do is shut down avast. it conflicks with vista. bob.......

Based upon the other thread, it's possible that this thread was meant for his system and not his friend's. Two different systems, same issue.

Same or very similar question, so same answer/s no matter how many systems it happens to be on. The fact it was posted on the WHS and Server forums also was more what I was concerned about.

Even thought I answered the first post in chronological order the OP hasn't responded.
