You could try to uninstall IE8 b2 and revert to IE7. Then update KB955302. In the MS newsgroups, some have been able to uninstall IE8 successfully, but not everyone.

Not me. Apparently, I missed too much things in the registry with various registry cleaners.  I get an error message the updates were not uninstalled correctly. :'(

I also avoid using Registry cleaners in Vista unless I set a system restore point first.

Yes, Tech, but DID YOU HAVE IE8 b2 ON IT???
No thanks God. Are you crazy? Microsoft beta testing? No thanks... I earn nothing, on contrary...

Unlike Bob3160 who installed this patch on 2 computers with PCTools FW PLUS and IE8 b2, I wasn't successful. I have exactly the same message error with or without Comodo3 FW (shut down AVAST, PCTools FW and all my other security app.). C-R-U-C-I-F-I-X-I-O-N is the word and yes I cleaned my registry with MV Reg Clean and Glary and Advanced Windows Care. Now Comodo3 FW was filtering too much, on my ISP speed test page (go Videotron, go technical support) I get now 6300 or so kpbs download, double what I got with Comodo3 FW. Just a tear for the rate A given by Matousec to Comodo, if it's worth that. It's not an intelligent FW and when you install its drivers Windows warns you they aren't approved by Microsoft. Oh, yes, I masked the update! :'(

Ok...you're not getting your update to work. We understand that and we understand that you're frustrated. I would be too and I have been. I don't know what else to tell you on this. :(  You mentioned Microsoft's help was a wash. Why? What did they say, if anything?

Best Regards...

Unfortunately relying on Microsoft's help usually result in a re-install of your operating system.
It also leaves you a little poorer.

( Occasionally, you do get lucky and actually talk to someone
with intelligence and knowledge. Sometimes they even speak your language.  ;D )

In fact, that's exactly what I'm getting and S-L-O-W. So far, I had an email to play in my msconfig yesterday and to shut off all my ms services but it didn't work either. Thanks all for your support. I really like AVAST web forum a lot for its ready and prompt help! :)
