There is no need to worry, they won't rush to release until it is ready unlike some other companies.

One thing for sure you will find out here first as there will most likely be a beta version first.

There is an update for 4.8 around the end of this month begining of next month, that should keep you happy for a while

It is better antispyware protection and especially anti rootkit?

I also hope that the engine of avast! 5 is more powerful, even remove viruses embedded where? One day I entered a virus and avast! could not erase

I do have a question on the forthcoming program update to Avast! 4.8; will that be picked up automatically when Avast! checks for updates or will I have to do something manually?

There will likely be first a beta release, notified here, followed by notification of the regular release. If you do nothing in due course you will get a notification on your system there is a program update, do you want to install now,' etc.

Since most of us on the forums see the notification we do a manual program update then and there rather than wait. Program updates are unlike virus signature update in that they are cycled over a 7 day period to balance server load. You could be lucky and get notified early in the cycle or on the last day.

I really can't understand why there are so many people that are getting all this excited for a new AV program, for goodness sake, surely you didn't but a computer for this alone did you, it's meant to be used for many things, and it's sad we need to have an AV protection in the first place, but that's life isn't it.

Wait till the new version in Beta or full is released, surely you can do that, as the mods etc have more important things to do rather than spend time replying to the same old questions like "When is the Avast 5 coming out"!
