Help, I am new to avast!  Is there a way to turn OFF or HIDE the scanning, it is always on my screen and is driving me crazy, although that would be a short trip tonight.  Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks, PT 4GRAM ???

The best way would have been not to enable it, it is off by default.

Standard Shield > Customize > Advanced - 'Show detailed info on performed actions' this option is off by default, so it would appear you have been tweaking avast without knowing the effect it will have. This function is also on the Web Shield and Internet Mail providers so you should also check those.
