hello, little question, when I click on the small blue icon a   on the avast window what is better to mark, Protection standard or protection web?  thank you.

What? Are you sure you're talking about avast?
If so, you should use both Standard Shield (resident or files protection) and WebShield (Internet protection).

Upon installation, Avast activates by default several antivirus services. Unless you wish to disable these services -- say to run defragmentation or CHKDSK software, then they should be running as well as protecting you.

I don't think it will mess these operations... Defrag won't be affected, CHKDSK won't be stopped by the services, but for other file access it will be probably only run at boot time.
