scanning email

Question please.  I installed Avast 4.0.211 home edition.  Our email client is America Online.  I cannot seem to get Avast to scan my emails.  We have Outlook Express but it is not currently installed.  I really do not want to use Outlook Express.  Is there a way to have my email scanned through AOL with Avast Home?  What about with Avast Pro?
