Hallo,
simply add both switches, they are pretty independent. "-c" means "scan entire file" and "-p2" is the action selector.

Hallo,
what does mean "does not work"? Scans, but find no infection, or scans & finds infection & but takes no action... anyway, -p2 action is not supported on Linux (see avastcmd -h, avast -h).

In the unshot, you can use pipes (we're on Linux) for far more flexible actions over the avast's scan output...

does not work meant:
/home/user> avast -c -p2
scans but does not find viruses or infected files:
#
# Statistics:
#
# scanned files:        8330
# scanned directories:  241
# infected files:       0
# total file size:      651,1 MB
# virus database:       080929-1 29.09.2008
# test elapsed:         4m:5s 255ms
#
/home/user>
-------------------------------------------
starting avastgui:
(process:4462): Gdk-WARNING **: locale not supported by Xlib

(process:4462): Gdk-WARNING **: can not set locale modifiers

(avastgui:4462): Gtk-WARNING **: Unable to locate theme engine in module_path: "clearlooks",
/usr/bin/avastgui: line 169:  4462 Speicherzugriffsfehler  $AVAST_PREFIX/bin/$programname $*
/home/user>

update works, but the gui closes after approx a dozend minutes during scan.
why does the scan in gui lasts so long and and the -c scan just a minute.

i read the how to breath with linux, but i cant go down the tree than /home/user   cd..does not work. is it important where i start the scan?
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
-p is not supported?
-p, --continue=1234        Automatic action with infected file:
                             1:delete, 2:(not supported), 3:repair, 4:stop
----------------------------------------------------------------------
/home/user> avastcmd -h
bash: avastcmd: command not found
/home/user> avastcmd-h
bash: avastcmd-h: command not found
/home/user>     ???????????????????

thnx

try those newer release-candidates: http://public.avast.com/~cimbal/test/ . when the gui still closes after some time in scans, please let me know.

here you can see that variant2 for -p  is not supported (other variants are supported):
-p, --continue=1234        Automatic action with infected file:
                             1:delete, 2:(not supported), 3:repair, 4:stop

avastcmd is nearly identical to avast (actually, avast is a thin wrapper over the avastcmd). thus, they parse/use their arguments the same way.

avastgui: 2.0.2

still the warning,whatever that means,

(process:15119): Gdk-WARNING **: locale not supported by Xlib

(process:15119): Gdk-WARNING **: can not set locale modifiers

(avastgui:15119): Gtk-WARNING **: Unable to locate theme engine in module_path: "clearlooks",

...
Deleted stale lock file '/home/user/.avast/lockfile-user'.
OK
update works
gui closes during scan

Hallo, this is strange - does avastcmd fail prematurely, this way, as well? can you determine (last lines in the log, or strace -f avastgui that_path >log 2>&1) what file could cause this and send it to us? you might have, on your hdd, something that's incorrectly processed (and this might be the reason why the scanner segfaults and the gui disappears).

thanks in advance

the explenaition is too shot for me- understand exactly nothing.

/home/user> avastcmd
bash: avastcmd: command not found
/home/user>

...

/home/user> -f avast
bash: -f: command not found
/home/user> avast -f
/usr/lib/avast4workstation/bin/avast: Ungültige Option -- f
Usage: avast [OPTION...] <areaname...>
Try `avast --help' or `avast --usage' for more information.
/home/user>

...

as far as i know: i dont have a hss, sdd or something...

please, tell me. what to try, in command lines, im less than a newbie

...hdd, sorry...

then, what's the purpose of anti-virus scanning, when you have NO hdd (harddrive)? read-only files can't be infected anyway, and temporary ramdisk will be forgotten (and thus, made virus-free) on each restart :).

to be clear ,  if your hard drive to be scanned is /hda1

just execute ( in a terminal , as root ) :

avast -a -c -t=A -p=4 /hda1  ( instead of avastcmd wich is a daemon)

and the scan will start  :)

just for clarity:
avastcmd = app linked against libavastengine, standalone scanner, part of avast4server package.
avast = re-wrapped avastcmd's code, nearly the same functionality, part of avast4workstation

avastd is the daemon, avastlite thin-client...
