Using With Other Programs
« on: September 30, 2008, 10:24:02 AM »
I'm getting ready to get rid of AVG free because the new 8.0 version likes to bog down my computer.
I had no trouble running the following programs with AVG: Trojan Hunter, Super Anti Spyware, Link Scanner and Spywareblaster.
Will I be able to run those other programs safely and without conflict with AVAST????
I also use the Firefox browser, Thunderbird for emails and Windows XP with service pack 2.

Welcome to the forum! :)

I'm using Super AntiSpyware, Spywareblaster, Firefox and Thunderbird of the programs you mention, and they work just fine with avast!

I think you will have no problem with those programs, I'm using some of them (see my signature).

Just ensure that you uninstall AVG, reboot, before installing avast.

As a new member of the avast! family, I thought I would include my signature as well.
I have all of those items listed running, plus I also use CCleaner and Revo uninstaller.
I have not had any issues with any of them.  ;D

This may seem like a dumb question but how do I find out if I need the32bit or 64bit????

Simple really,
It was horrible when it first hit, did not get much better, and any added security
I take care of by other means. As far as system updates, not so much, and nothing that
I need.
While I am a believer in keeping a system up to date, I do not just follow blindly into
the Microsoft abyss. I am also a believer in reading before doing.  ::)

I updated both my home PCs to SP3 and have had no problems. In fact felt a bit faster, not slower. I do not think it is a matter of jumping into MS abyss - IMO keeping computers unpatched lead to security risks for others as well. I do suggest you update.

Same here ... no problems.

By The Way, Grogg4444 also only has SP2.

Me too... I've updated 10 to 12 computers to SP3 without problems...
