Event Viewer doesn't show automatic updates??
« on: October 08, 2008, 02:10:37 PM »
Good morning,

A few days ago I posted a question asking why manual 'iAVS updates' weren't logged in the Event Viewer http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=39172.0

DavidR answered my question.

So,  I decided to go back and try automatic updates again for 'iAVS' but now I can't seem to get them logged in my 'Event Viewer' as happened previously when I had the update function set to automatic.

Apparently when I was playing around trying to get the manual updates logged I changed some settings.

Can anyone tell me what the correct settings are when you have 'iAVS' updates set to automatic?

Thanks and regards,

They're logged in avast log viewer (Notice tab) and Windows Vista Events...
I think there aren't "correct" settings... there are the settings you want to set. What do you want avast to do?

Morning Tech,

I appreciate the fast response.

For the record, I am running WinXP Home, SP3 with IE7.

Before I started playing around with my settings the only entries I ever saw in my Windows 'Event Viewer' under the 'Antivirus' section was when Avast automatically updated the 'iAVS'.

Now, however, I have all kind of entries logged ... but no 'automatic update' entries.

Right before I checked your response I rebooted and I had about 24 entries listed under Antivirus and all referred to the ASWchestS and were very similar to this example:

Event Type:   Information
Event Source:   avast!
Event Category:   Client
Event ID:   90
Date:      10/8/2008
Time:      7:28:36 AM
User:      N/A
Computer:   (xxxx-xxxxxxxxxx)
Description:
Info from aswChestS: chestGetValueLoc

All I want to show in my 'Windows' Event Viewer are the automatic update notifications and nothing else unless there is a problem.

Any ideas?

Thanks and regards,

I'm on Vista now... if I remember correctly, the automatic updates aren't on Windows Events on XP. Maybe the programmers should change the code for that. The user can't do it.

Hi DavidR and Tech,

Call off the dogs!

I had to do some honey-do's' and when I just fired up the computer I discovered my Event Viewer has once again 'logged' an automatic update.

I have no idea what I did but I will let well enough alone and accept it as is ....lol

Tomorrow's update will be the true test.

Thanks and regards,
