I don't do well in navigating this forum -- I can never find my post (LOL).

Re: running ccleaner -- I run ccleaner EVERY time I come off the internet.  Question for you -- when I run the Registry scan and it has items listed and I'm given the option to fix -- shouldn't I be fixing those items?

Thanks,

Split them into multiple posts or attach them. Click the additional options at the lower left of the reply box to show the attachment options.

I messed up -- should have made these posts at the spybot forum -- they are now assisting me.  It still looks likes I'm clean with only outdated Java on my pc, according to them.  Time will tell.  I still wonder about a false positive since the file seems nowhere to be found in any of the scans I've done -- even with Kapersky's scan.  I'm still trying to figure this out, but not as panicky as in beginning.  I've done a new restore point and am taking it from there.  Think we can consider this post closed here at avast.

Avira "Items"
« Reply #19 on: October 11, 2008, 07:28:29 PM »
 :)  Hi :

I just finished viewing your Thread on the Spybot Forums and saw a couple
of "Avira" Items that "Shaba" made no mention ; generally speaking, it is NOT
wise to have any "remnants" of a PRIOR antiVIRUS program while using Avast.
I could not tell IF both Avira "Items" in the Log that your posted are/were
"related" ONLY to their "Antirootkit" "Tool", which MAY be "connected" to their
antivirus program, but we usually recommend using the appropiate Avira
 "Removal" programs available at
 www.avira.com/en/support/av7_upgrade_tools.html .

I've never used AntiVir anyway -- only used it yesterday with their free scan to see if it found anything -- naturally, it did not.  I'm beginning to think that Avast is not for me. Sure it finds things, but are they legit!  Nothing else seems to find anything.  Weird in my books!

You're absolutely right -- Shaba knows her stuff.  I do believe that Avast is not for me.  It was nice while it lasted, but I don't need false positives!

Oops - sorry about that - thanks for setting me straight.

Thought you might like to know what I've done.  I removed the AVAST program from my computer and installed AVG Free.  I then ran a scan using the AVG program and it shows my computer clean except for a few tracking cookies that we promptly deleted.

I appreciate your help in this matter.  Thank you.

Good luck with the AVG forum
you'll need it
All of these AV and anti malware have false positives
some are not so up front about dealing with reality
Glad you got help at spybot
The MBAM forum is also good
if AVG does not work out or if you need help in any case we'll be seeing you
you might go to pchell and search on remove antivir just in case

Hi all -- just wanted to let you know I'm back -- with no problems either.

I tried AVG and flunked!  The forum was fine; however, the update part of the program and I just didn't get along.  It would never work right for me -- even after spending time with Kerio trying to get it right with them too.

Anyway, just fyi -- I downloaded and installed a new file tonight; ran a complete PC scan and guess what -- it showed me clean as a whistle.  Don't know what happened to the dialer file, but it's long gone and I'm glad.  It didn't even show the 3 decompression bomb files that were showing up before.

I really do like Avast and it is my all-time favorite free antivirus program.  I appreciate everything that everyone here did to help me through that ordeal and I hope it's a long while before I have that experience again.

Thanks for being here Avast and formum mods!
