ZoneAlarm Spyware Update Problem
« on: October 19, 2008, 05:33:40 AM »
avast recognize the update as virus/worm :

Original filename : spyware0.xml
Original location :
C:\WINDOWS\system32\ZoneLabs\Updates\unpacked==anti_spyware=SpywareDatabase-80-Patch.zip\spyware0.xml

Virus description : Win32:Sytro-AB [Wrm]

Is this really a worm?

Looks like ZA isn't encrypting its spyware signatures, so any signature based security product installed on the same system would detect it very poor on ZAs part.

Personally I would disable ZAs anti-spyware as I did with my own firewall's anti-spyware module. I have to say dumping this c**P in the system32 folder(ZoneLabs sub folder) is absolutely crazy.

First you have avast looking out for spyware and you can have other anti-spyware application that keeps its signatures encrypted and I feel is likely to be better than the ZA anti-spyware module.
