Hi Dave :
Just finished reading through your GeeksToGo Thread. "Egwene"s Advice was
incomplete when it comes to "Backdoor Trojans" ; what was left out was the
following which is on the GeeksToGo Site : "Should I reformat and reinstall, or disinfect?
If you have adequate backups of files including important documents, pictures, emails, contacts, etc., the installation media for your operating system and applications, as well as the technical ability required, then we strongly recommend reformatting and reinstalling. In addition, if your system contains confidential data, or third party personal information for clients, patients, customers, or your employer, you have a responsibility to protect that data. If at all possible, reformat and reinstall. "
And would be wise to read what some "Microsoft Most Valuable Professionals"
say at
http://aumha.net/viewtopic.php?f=26&t=28580 .
Why Egwene recommended Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware's "Quick Scan"
instead of their "Full Scan" seems short-sighted !?
And even though it was recommended to "Update" your Adobe Reader,
Egwene seems unaware of the recent discovery of a hacker tool specifically
designed to exploit the Adobe Reader, as reported at
http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=38839.0 . Seems wise to uninstall
the Adobe Reader and get the safer "Foxit Reader" or "CutePDF" !?
I uninstalled the "GameSpy Arcade" yrs ago because of its potential danger .
Lastly, having BOTH the Adobe Flash Player and Macromedia ShockWave
Player multiples your risk of a malware infestation and since you need only
One of these, would be best to uninstall the ShockWave Player .
With the continuing problems you are having with Avast, I wonder how
"clean" you really are, and I noticed Egwene did NOT address that .
