Okay, that's it. I'm sorry if I was not suppose to post the whole file, but it was not that long since it started on October 31. I hoping you will be able to pick out why it is not updating from these posts.

Here is a comparison of the Notice.log file from my system and the Notice.log file on the system that will not automatically update.

This clearly indicates that the system has not had a virus database update since November 21, the reinstall date for version 4.8.1290.

There is no indication in the logs you have posted that there has ever been any automatic VPS update on this system (even in the logs prior to the 4.8.1290 installation update all updates are manual).

Can you please double check that VPS updates on this system are set to automatic and that that Update (Connections) settings is correct (ie does not say Dialup if a broadband connection is used).

badak, again, see no trouble in your logs... Please, check what Alanrf suggested and check into Update (Basic) > Details which is the update period (120 minutes is the less for Home version).

Okay, here are three screen shots of the Update (Basic), Update (Connections), and Proxy server settings from the system. Every thing looks good to me, but let me know if you see something. Is there something else I could be missing?

As I mentioned a couple of posts ago, looking at the Notice.log file clearly indicates that the system has never performed an automatic virus database update.

This is really making me scratch my head.  ???

Tech;

Here is a screeen shot of the Update (Basic) -> Details settings.

Not sure what you mean by (120 minutes is the less for Home version). Could you explain please?

The minimum elapse time between two automatic updates in the Home (free) version is 120.
If you set a smaller time, it won't work. It will be block internally by the updater that will, automatically, work only each 120 minutes. The manual update does not have this limitation, although.

I checked the "Detail" settings on my personal system and they are they same as on this problem system. Do you have any idea what might be causing this problem? Do you have any other suggestions for a possible resolution?

I wish I could help further... but I found nothing in your logs...
I'm not sure I have already asked, but the manual update works, doesn't it?
Any firewall issue that you could suggest that is causing this?

Looking at your update (connections) image, I notice that you don't have any box checked.
I have the ....permanently connected... box checked even though I turn off my computer
at night.  When it's on, it's connected via cable.  My avast has been working perfectly since I
started using it.  All my updates have been loaded automatically.

badak; do what ace2701 suggested, I did a test witout that check box and I was only able to update via Push iAVS, with the check box activated, the update came before any mail message from Avast.

On installation of Avast, that is the default setting (no checked boxes for either type of connection). I usually just leave them unchecked after install and automatic updates normally work fine, but at this point, I will try anything.

Since the affected computer is on a high-speed wireless internet connection, I will put a check in "My computer is permanently connected to the internet" box and report back.

Thanks.

I am having the same problem.
I changed proxy settings to "direct connection" and unchecked "use internet explorer settings" because I use Firefox and not internet explorer.
I hope this solves my problem of the program not auto updating. Mine has never autoupdated although the virus database updates fine.
