uninstalling/ reinstalling - both fail
« on: November 25, 2008, 06:51:47 PM »
hi, somehow i managed to pick up a couple of trojans, a couple is what i can tell, maybe more. Avast didn't pick them up, when i did a full system scan it found 2 trojans but gave no option to remove them (????) ???
a firend was helping me out and brought with him F-Secure suite, which he installed, this was supposed to remove Avast, but didn't do it properly. screwed my whole machine so i had to do a system restore. now i have a the Avast symbol next to the clock, but with a red and white circle on it. when trying to uninstall it from remove programs it gives the following message:
Error
Avast
a setiface error has occured: 2
try to reinstall or contact support.

i have tried reinstalling, but it shows the file passing between 2 folders for a brief moment and then stops. nothing works on avast.

HELP please.
i have no avast, F-Secure suite won't install because Avast is still present.
and every 15 seconds i have a pop up telling me i am infected with malware/tojans.

any help appreciated.

Try the avast! uninstall utility at http://www.avast.com/eng/avast-uninstall-utility.html.  It should remove all traces of avast! for you.  Then you can tell us more about the trojans.

 :)  Hi :

"Trojans" are best handled by antiSPYWARE/antiTROJAN programs,
such as the FREE Version of "SUPERAntiSpyware" from
www.superantispyware.com . You are going "backwards" in protecting your
computer IF you use a security "Suite" . And any security program "Detection"
should INITIALLY be "Quarantined", NOT "Deleted" .
