Send Issue Outlook 03 & Avast 4.8
« on: January 20, 2009, 02:53:04 AM »
I am using Outlook 2003 and Avast Home 4.8, Outlook hangs while sending if I have the SMTP scan turned on.  Is there a fix for this?
 ???

I'm using Outlook 2003 with avast! for IMAP and Cached Exchange and have not seen this. Is Outlook fully up-to-date? i.e Office 2003 SP3? (Of course that could be part of the problem!) It's not a 'fix' but have you considered just leaving SMTP scanning turned off?

I don't know about Office being up to date.....windows is.  I have SMTP turned off.  It does not seem that this has been an issue until just recently even with the SMTPO scan turned on.

Have (or did) you another AV installed in this system, if so what was it and how did you get rid of it ?
Remnants of another AV might have an impact/clash which would appear as a hang/freeze.

I take it there are no errors displayed ?
Does this happen for all email or just those with attachments (large) ?

Ensure that the avast plug-in in outlook 2003 isn't disabled.
Outlook 2003 > Help > About > Disabled items
WinXP ProSP3/ Core2Duo E8300/ 4GB Ram/ avast! free 18.5.2342/ Firefox ESR, uBlock Origin, uMatrix/ MailWasher Pro7.11.0/ DropMyRights/ WinPatrol+/ Drive Image 7.1/ SnagIt 10.0/ avast! mobile security
Windows 10 Home 2004 64bit/ Acer Aspire F15/ Intel Core i5 7200U 2.5GHz, 8GB DDR4 memory, 256GB SSD, 1TB HDD/ avast! free 20.7.2425 (build 20.7.5568.598) UI-1.0.558/ WinPatrol+/ Firefox, uBlock Origin, uMatrix/ MailWasher Pro

There never has been another AV program on this machine.

It happens on all e-mails regardless of size.

The Avast plug-in was disabled. I re-enabled it and will test.

How do they become disabled?

I have no idea how they become disabled, that is in the realm of ms outlook and I don't use that product.

I have a couple of issues with Outlook, are you well versed in that? If so I would pose my questions to you

Thanks

I hate Microsoft for the MS Outlook and Outlook Express naming (which will be irrelevant in the not to distant future) so to which are you referring when you say outlook ?

In any case, if it is avast related you could post it as I'm not the only one watching the forums, I would however suggest you post it in a new topic (if you mean OE) as it would be unrelated to this MS Outlook issue which is now resolved.

printman, the problem is even the MS Outlook users can't imagine what made the plugin get disabled...
Most of the times the problem is on remains of old antivirus installations. But you've said you haven't any... so, I'm empty too.

As my post mentioned I don't use MS Outlook, so any help would have to fall to someone else. You could post it in the General forum (unrelated to avast) rather than one of the avast related forums.
