Windows Security claims 4.8 is out of date
« on: November 30, 2008, 11:20:24 PM »
I have updated and restarted numerous times.  I appear to be having a major issue here.  i uninstalled and reinstalled avast....twice.....and I am still getting the same error.

I have had repeated restarts by avast and warnings that my database needs to be updated.  Even though I update this and restart...it is continuing to do this.

I also seem to have have lost all my settings on IE and I can't access secure websites.  I get a warning that the certificates are invalid.

I have also been getting active X is being used improperly warnings when I try to run windows security scan.

Any help with this would be great.

I'm running XP.

Which anti-virus were you using before avast?  Remnants from other av's will conflict with avast causing problems like you're having.

I was using avast...I thought maybe it had become corrupted so I uninstalled it and reinstalled it.

Check your system date is correct, especially the month and year, adjust as required.

The latest version of avast is 4.8.1296, the latest VPS is version 081130-0, what does about avast report (right click the avast icon).

I would suggest firefox or opera as an alternative to IE as neither uses activeX so shouldn't be improperly used.

After uninstalling avast!, reboot, run the avast! uninstall utility, reboot.

But first download avast! &  save it to your desktop so you can install avast! after the uninstall. After re-installing avast!, reboot.

If the system date it not correct it won't matter how you reinstall as the system date will still be the same, that should be the first check.

I use the free version of alfaclock.  It uses the atomic clock to synchronize the time on my computer.  The cmos battery in my computer is dead so I loose my time setting every time I shutdown.  Alfaclock sets my time at boot up.  One odd time at boot up my time was wrong, so I went into alfaclocks settings & hit synchronize & everything was ok. ;)
