Avast won't run
« on: December 03, 2008, 02:13:52 AM »
Hello fellow avast users.  I have recently installed avast antivirus software and am not sure if this topic was already discussed, but when I try to run avast I get the following message: "The procedure entry point _basEncodeFileToSubmit@28 could not be located in the dynamic link library ashBase.dll."  Could someone explain why it is doing this and what I need to do to rectify the problem?  Thanks a lot.

John

Do you or did you have any other anti virus installed? If so, delete avast, delete that other ac completely(!) then install avast.

If you need help with this, let us know what av you have/had installed besides avast.

Another thing you can try is: Control panel > software > avast > add/remove > repair

I've had both symantec and trend micro installed before.  Both were uninstalled prior to the installation of Avast.  For some reason when I try to uninstall Avast and start over, it won't let me uninstall.  It says that there was a problem with the uninstall...

I tried the repair route as well, and it didn't give me an option for repair.  Only Uninstall, update and one other option that escapes my memory at the moment.  It did the update, but that was when the current problem occurred.  Prior to that I had the red circle in the Avast icon located in the lower right part of the screen.

Hi...

First, try uninstalling avast with this utility...

http://www.avast.com/eng/avast-uninstall-utility.html

Then download and run the following tool from Symantec to take care of any remnants from Norton...

http://service1.symantec.com/Support/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2005033108162039

Reinstall avast from scratch here...

http://www.avast.com/eng/download-avast-home.html

If you have deleted the e-mail from Alwil that contained your registration key, you can apply for a new one here...

http://www.avast.com/eng/home-registration.php

Hope this helps. :)

Best Regards...
