Very Big False Positive, Fraudulent sites..
« on: December 04, 2008, 10:20:36 AM »
I sent this e-mail to sales but I dont think they will return me, so I open this thread..
Please remove our website immediatly from your list.

Here is the issue:

Quote
Dear Sir/Madam,
I am the owner and admin of Doctus.Org which is listed as a fraud sales section in your web site here:

http://www.avast.com/eng/fraudulent-sales-of-avast-products.html

I would like to inform you, doctus.org is a completely legit and a legal web site, which is a part of “Children and Information Security Association” services. We give free support for any kind of AV and other security products in our web forum. And I must tell you that, Doctus is the number one PC security platform in Turkey and leads users to use best softwares. Doctus also determines the securty trends in Turkey.
Also Avast turkey distributors are our members and they give support to your users freely.
So I believe you put our url to this list without informing us, by the notification of an anonymous person.
I have to tell you that, this is not an acceptable behavior to  free, open sourced and very much reliable information security platform.
We are listed as a Turkish resource in following web sites:
CastleCops
Wilderssecurity
TrendMicro
Kaspersky
Merjins’ Hijackthis web site
Comodo
Antivir
And many more.
We are not selling NO product in doctus.org

I would like you to announce a Turkish  paper that you made a big mistake. And inform your users.
Or I will have to remove giving support and ban my editors to make  reviews about Avast, which they do regularly.
Regards
Tansu Günay

Dear Tansu,

At this point, due to our native Turkish speaker being on holiday, I am unable to review the matter internally, however, in light of your comment, I have instructed our web team to remove the posting from the fraudulent sales page.

Upon our translators return from holiday, I will ask for a more full explanation of the issue.

Your listing will be removed at the next scheduled web update, which should push the update out to our servers later this afternoon.

I would like to extend our apologies for any error that may have been caused and will fully review the matter in due course.

Regards,

Justin.

So that means, there is a native Turkish speaker and he/she checked our website and see there is a fraud sale there???

I really want to meet him/her and see how native Turkish speaker he/she is..

If there is somebody, native Turkish speaker, and marked doctus.org as a fraud site, man he/she is abusing you..

No, Justin didn't say anything like that.

Justin said:
"due to our native Turkish speaker being on holiday"
That makes sense, because Turkey is in holiday these days about  a religious day.

So there is a native Turkish speaker in Avast, right?

Option 1
They did not ask him/her to check my web site, and just put it that list without knowing inside.
Option 2
The native turkish speaker checked my site and see (which is absolutely impossible) there is a fraud sale. Since this option is impossible, there is an abuse here, maybe this native speaker doesnt like doctus.org, or maybe he/she is trying to make another security site in Turkish.. I dont know..
I need an explanation why my site is listed there, what is the content or evidence to put doctus.org in that list?
Regards

Justin said that he'd like to check the site more in detail before removing it from the list for good - which is quite understandable I think.

How it got there - is completely unrelated (yes, I'd say option 1 is correct). It's possible, for example, that somebody posted a link to a pirated version (or to another of the fraudulent sites) on the forum and it was reported by the users... don't know.

I am not blaming yet.
I know, pirated or any other kind link is impossible in our forum. Even, posting a link, if it is not from official web site of the software is forbidden. There are over 60 editors checking these. You can take a look and search anytime.
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=site%3Adoctus.org+avast&btnG=Google+Search&aq=f&oq=

What I mean is, I am really sure that there is and there was never been a content to mislead someone knows turkish to fraud sales in our database.

So what exactly made them think this way?
Maybe you re right, in deep somewhere there is a link or instruction, but I want to see it and remove it..

even the link in fraudulent list here:
http://www.avast.com/eng/fraudulent-sales-of-avast-products.html
does not exist in doctus.org and believe me never existed in the past...

Dear Tansu,

Thanks for your further posts.

As Igor points out, I have made no further allegations or decisions, I have merely stated I cannot make any further concrete decision until our native Turkish speaker returns from holiday in two weeks.

Because we are nice people, I have immediately removed the link you specified.

I can't make any call either way, because I don't speak Turkish.

I also didn't add the link to the fraudulent sales page, and I need to speak to our team to discover who did and investigate how the link ended up on our systems and why.

I hope this meets your needs at this time.

I would like to point out that I am not intending to have a public debate on the matter, which I don't think helps, but I can assure you that I will investigate the matter fully on our Turkish speaker's return to the office.

In the event that there has been an error, I will happily publicly apologize via these forums. If not, I will contact you off-forum and let you know what I find.

All the best,

Justin.

Hi Justin,
Thanks for your kind attention on the issue.

We (doctus.org) are the first organization in Turkey about security softwares and information security. So we are on the same side, at least we supposed to be...

Since I am quite sure of every byte of my almost 1 GB database, I really like to know what the person or department who put those links in that page, see as a fraudulent action.

That is my primary concern.

On the other hand our name is still on the list :)

Regards
Tansu

Does anyone know anything here?
Who puts these links?
Why put these links?
When will they be removed?
this is getting funny, if you know how to check a web site index you can clearly see that doctus.org has a larger "avast" index than this avast support forum.
Code: [Select]
site:doctus.org avast vs site:forum.avast.com avastI dowt know how long you have been listing us as thieves, you also refuse to remove us from there.
I am sorry but  have to digg this thread to make this work...

Did you read the answers? You were told when the the web page will be updated (and it already was, as scheduled).

As for the rest, Justin said that he'll investigate the matter later (and probably not publically); asking again and again will not make it any faster.

I am sorry,
I am not so comfortable being listed as fraud.
It's been 3 days from my first e-mail and 18 hours from this thread.
I still dont know why it s been listed at the first place, I dont know when it will end.
What is that? You marked anyone you want (remember I am so sure there is no such a content in my db and never has been), and refuse to answer, then when I bring it to public forums, for some reason (I dont have to care, but I am caring for 18 hours) my site is still listed as fraud..
We are talking about doctus.org, which has 25 000 members and over 45 000 avast only google index.
Avast people have exact 5 minutes to remove my site off that page, then I will digg this event and force my members to digg it..
Regards

I will check this thread time to time, please inform me who and why he exactly list us as a fraud site..

Thanks again..
