Downloading files main malware vector - 53% of all infections!
« on: December 08, 2008, 10:15:42 PM »
Hi malware fighters,

Downloading files is the main cause of malware infections on the Internet. 53% of all infections are through malicious video codecs or opening unknown files, according to a Trend Micro survey:
Second biggest source of malware is through malware that is already active on a system to download additional malware. E-mail attachments and USB-sticks (Autorun malware) are also responsible for another 10%, and hold number three and four on the list. When we look at specific malware vectors for Europe Autorun malware is responsible for nearly 23% of malware infections.

Using iframes to infect people through drive-by downloads is only responsible for 7% of all malware that spreads that way. The percentages does not totall up to a 100%, because the majority of malware uses multiple attack vectors to infect,

If you don't know what your getting, why are you downloading it ???
Usually it's because "Ooh, this sounds good, let me give it a try!!!"
Next step is usually a post in here or one of the other forums: "Can you help me please,
something seems to be wrong with my computer"

Sorry Damian I just couldn't resist.  ;D
