System Files/ BOOT SCAN?
« on: December 16, 2008, 02:16:32 PM »
Hi there every one,

I have a question regarding BOOT SCAN & System Files.

Did a clean install of Vista on my Dell note book.

After installing drivers, updates, installed Avast.

Updated it & ran a boot scan with Advanced Option......First> Move to chest......Second one > Allow  delete or move....on this I got a message displayed which I ignored......"What if system files"

http://www.digitalred.com/avast-boot-time.php

Than it prompted for a restart to perform the scheduled scan.

It took a while.....I was there till 25% after which I had to leave because of the nature of my job.

On my return the note book was still at password, waiting to start.

My question is Firstly my 2nd option probably was wrong?

Secondly how would I know if there was a System file infected & got deleted?

I blame my self for not sitting till the scan was completed.

To summarize its all in the mind.

Hoping to hear from you smart guys,

Thanks,

Yezinki.

PS: Otherwise shall have to go through the ordeal of a fresh install after a format..........

Thanks Tech, I'll let ya know & posted.

I'm really finicky about my note book cause I use it only for work related issues.

I did create a complete RAW back up image, before installing Avast, but don't wanna use restore option.

Avast! Virus Chest shows:

       1. ALL chest files:

1. Kernel32.dll> (Original location)C:\Windows>System32.....Last changed> showing the time

2. winsock.dll> same

3. winsock32.dll> same

       2. System Files are also these 3 & same as Last changed.

Why does it show Last Changed?

     3. User Files > empty.

     4. Infected Files> empty.

2. System Files are also these 3 & same as Last changed.
They're there (system folder) for backup purposes.

Why does it show Last Changed?
The time the file was last changed (or updated by Windows).

Tech thorough System scan shows the machine is clean.

Where are all the logs saved?

Timings of the changed files is confusing?

1. 1/19/2008.

2. 1/12/2206.

3. 1/19/2008.

Where are all the logs saved?
C:\Program files\Alwil Software\Avast4\Data\Log
and the reports
C:\Program files\Alwil Software\Avast4\Data\Report

Timings of the changed files is confusing?
2206 seems a typo...
The others are ok, aren't they. The timing seems ok for me. Don't worry.
