Ok simply, is normal defrag fine if system restore is turned off?

Yezinki why do you want to turn it off so badly ? You will gain nothing by doing this you can only loose by turning it off. Just leave the setting at VSS compatible mode and that's it(which is also the default setting i think). It's not gonna hurt you in any way. And if you read the article i gave the link to you will also learn that System Restore is not the only thing that relies on VSS. Just read the article please and your questions will be answered.

And cannot compare with none of the tools we mentioned here except Ultra Defrag(which is even buggier) ...

Well its free which has to be something, I have it as one of my defragger tools. I also use a tool that RejZor put together Power Defragmenter a GUI interface for the contig.exe. I also use the JKDefrag GUI on occasion, all of these are free.

Now on my new system I find that with a dual core CPU, NTFS format and a relatively fats SATA II HDD, even the windows defrag on (XP Pro) is relatively fast.
