No. It scans on real time also.

There has been a lot of discussion in these forums on the IE exposure.

What is perhaps more important right now is that you go to Windows Updates to get the fix for the IE exposure (made available today by Microsoft) if it is not pushed to your system by Windows automatic updates.

For info the fix is not required for Vista SP2 and IE8
