Avira is for trail on this test machine but have Avast on note book & installing Avast back after testing Avira.

Delay the ones you mentioned for how long & using which appl?

Thanks.

You can delay the startup of services in Vista to be delayed.  Does WinPatrol offer more options or something?  Why is it better than setting the delay with Vista?

WinPatrol cannot control the startup of services - it can be used to delay the applications that are set to run at startup.

I do not believe that Vista provides that function.

Trial and error...
Start the ones more necessary first, then the others, delay some minutes for the non essential ones.

My conclusion is that Avast Home & SpyBlaster are a must.

Rest like MBAM, WinPatrol if present definitely provide extra protection/detection.

On this test machine, I install/uninstall never worry what shall clash or get corrupted but still is clean & working error Free.

No registry or image back ups......uninstalled appls like Avast their services still present & so on..........

Delayed startup

Uninstalled appl Services

Thanks to Alan Baxter.

"Not easily, but it's not necessary.  Just use Spyware Blaster.  That's what I do.  It's not a real-time scanner and doesn't conflict with any other software.  Not only does it update the IE cookies block list, it also populates IE's list of restricted sites and blocks ActiveX from known bad sites,  I highly recommend it.  Spyware Blaster also adds its own cookie block list to Firefox.  It's list has about 230 sites in it, most of which overlap with the CS Lite block list.  Go ahead and let Spyware Blaster "Enable All Protection".  It coexists with CS Lite perfectly well."

Well you can add another passive device to your overall protection and that is OpenDNS.com this you set your connections to use this DNS server, it has a blacklist of sites which can help and since they aren't on your system, you don't have to maintain the list ;D

The firefox add-on WOT is another that is very light on resources and isn't on your system for you to maintain.

I don't collect malware site URLs ;D

Nor would I suggest visiting live malware sites just to test your defences, even when using a drive imaging software as you would still have a lag between your last image and if you did get infected. Not to mention you may not even know you are infected and could potentially be infecting others.

But from previous posts in these forums, google sponsored links seem to be a breeding ground.
