Uninstalled Avast successfully, but there´s still one problem
« on: January 03, 2009, 12:20:18 AM »
I have uninstalled Avast.4 Professional, but every time I boot my computer it appears an error message "can not find file C:\PROGRAM~1\ALWILS~1\Avast4\ASWREG~1.EXE "C:\Program files\Alwil Software\Avast4\AhAScr.dll"

I looked for this file in the registry and erased it, but it seems to appear again every time I delete it. I have done everything, but I still can not deleted without it appears again.

I look forward to hearing from you.

  • If at first you don’t succeed; call it version 1.0

Did you reboot after running the utility?
Did you run the utility in the computers' safe mode?
If so, (or if you now try it, and still no luck) try reinstalling the Avast program. Reboot as prompted, then disable the program from the tray icon, (stop On-access protection), there should be a confirmation prompt, click yes, then try uninstalling it again, in the usual way, from "add/remove programs".

marcos24ab,

Do you have some type of hips software on your computer?

When I update a program to a new version that I have in WinPatrol's Startup Delayer I will get a "can't find the file" on boot up.  I just delete that entry from the Startup Delayer & put the updated version in Startup Delayer.  No more "can't find the file".

If you have a hips program, delete avast! entries from it.

Please, boot in Safe Mode and run the avast uninstall from there.
If there isn't an avast folder, create a new folder, empty and run the uninstalling pointing to this empty folder.

Excuse my ignorance, but what is a hip program? I have never heard something like that before

SSM is an example of a hips program.  It's hips not hip.

You're welcome.

I'm sorry you can't resolve your problem. avast has a self-defence module and if there are remnants of avast (possibly including the self-defence module) it is important to run the Uninstall Utility from SAFE MODE, several people have asked if you did that ?

If not I would try that as there is something in registry which is trying to run these files on'y to find they aren't there.

Have you tried a registry search values/data for the values you mentioned in your first post:
