Please help! Avast not opening!

I'm having issues. I need SERIOUS help!

I try opening the main Avast4 window to scan and I get an error dialog that reads:

Static
Error dialog text
(with the buttons) OK Yes No Help...

I have clicked all four buttons and NOTHING happens or fixes it.

PLEASE HELP!

I should probably have added that I'm using Vista Home Premium SP2. Sorry.

Did Avast work before or have you just installed it?
Did you have an Antivirus program on the computer before installing Avast?
Have you removed it?
How did you remove it?
