Missing avast sounds?
« on: April 29, 2004, 12:57:02 PM »
Following a recent 'custom re-install' I now notice that only 2 sound types are now available, 'Automatic VPS Update' and 'Virus Found'.

By 'Custom Install' I mean I chose not to download Outlook / BAT / Skins.

I tried a further custom re-install today and I still have only those two sound types.   Operating System is Win XP Pro.

Have the available sound types been reduced or is there a problem here?

You should have a problem...
Seven .wav files should be installed:
hover, possible, press, ready, suspic, virfound and vpsupd

What language are you using?
The sound files are created into the language folder.

So there's just 2 wav files in the <avast>\english folder?

That's right, just the two I mentioned earlier.  Situation remained the same even after a second custom re-install.  :(

Vlk, remember this thread:
no sounds at all !

Unfortunately the advice Vlk gave in that thread to click 'Browse' and select manually doesn't help me, as the appropriate sounds are not listed at all.

That's kind thank you, but I think I can get by with the two sounds I do have. What interests me more is why only those 2 have downloaded after 2 custom re-installs? Problem with my setup or some issue at the Alwil end of things?

Check the file <avast>\setup\setup.log and search for the string "wav". Does it mention anything?

Sorry, I'm going to display my 'newbie' credentials here, can someone talk me through step by step how I do that please?  Thanks very much.

Open the file in Notepad. In my previous post, <avast> stood for the folder where you installed avast (typically "C:\Program Files\ALWIL Software\avast4"). Then use the search feature to find any occurence of the string "wav" or ".wav" to see if there're any entries about the files being installed.

Well it *does* appear that I have all 7 wav sounds. Am slightly confused though as 'Date modified' datees are 09/01/2004, so have these been held over from the original  'Full' rather than 'Custom' installation?  Maybe I should go back to a Full installation again?
