Can't schedule a boot scan, why?

I run a full system scan and after I look at the log, so many files haven't been scanned because access was denied. So I try and schedule a boot time scan, and again Access is denied, why is that? The feature is there on the drop down menu of my Avast. I have Avast Home 4.7 Any help would be appreciated, I think I may have a problem and want to scan my boot files. Thanks!

If at first you don’t succeed; call it version 1.0

Hi leadrobin,
Some ideas:
Are you running from an admin account?
Any other AV installed previously?
Your version of Avast is not current, current version is 4.8.1296. Try updating.
