RealBasic5.5.4J False detection
« on: February 03, 2009, 01:02:08 AM »
Hi,avast team,
Thank you very much for nice anti-virus soft.

I use RealSoftware's Realbasic.
But avast4.8home edition(VPS:090202-0) report that realbasic ver5.5.4J
has trojan.

I think this is false positive.

Seems you have had this before almost 8 months ago with this file and it was declared an FP then, http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=36982.0.

You could also check the offending/suspect file at: VirusTotal - Multi engine on-line virus scanner and report the findings here the URL in the Address bar of the VT results page. You can't do this with the file securely in the chest, you need to extract it to a temporary (not original) location first, see below.

Create a folder called Suspect in the C:\ drive, e.g. C:\Suspect. Now exclude that folder in the Standard Shield, Customize, Advanced, Add, type (or copy and paste) C:\Suspect\* That will stop the standard shield scanning any file you put in that folder. You should now be able to export any file in the chest to this folder and upload it to VirusTotal without avast alerting.

If it is indeed a false positive, see http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=34950.msg293451#msg293451, how to report it to avast! and what to do to exclude them until the problem is corrected.
Windows 10 Home 64bit/ Acer Aspire F15/ Intel Core i5 7200U 2.5GHz, 8GB DDR4 memory, 256GB SSD, 1TB HDD/ avast! free 24.2.6105 (build 24.2.8918.824) UI 1.0.799/ Firefox, uBlock Origin, uMatrix/ MailWasher Pro/ Avast! Mobile Security

Just wanted to add that I've always hated RealPlayer for as long as I can remember.  Very biased software, and I think it likes to call "home" a lot.  It's been a while though.

I'd try to use an alternative like the one available here: http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/codecs_and_filters/real_alternative.cfm

I think I downloaded one a long time ago, that worked great, but I'm not sure if it's the one in the link above.

I haven't really seen any realmedia files that I've wanted to open in a long time, so I don't remember anymore.

Realbasic is a compiler and a product of Real Software

Your response is about the media products (such as RealPlayer) of RealNetworks and has no connection with the problem reported by the original poster.
