Just a thought; DavidR asked a few posts back, and I didn't see an answer, was any other AV installed on the computer prior to Avast?
Windows 10,Windows Firewall,Firefox w/Adblock.

I think that this is a problem with the latest Avast update.
I to have been using Avast for a while on vista 32. And since the last update (1335) I am now getting no visual or oral notification that Avast is updating. I have reinstalled Avast but still no joy.
Could this be an Avast problem?

Just to add to my previous post, I checked the log viewer, and there has been no Auto update since the last program update, I have just manually updated, but had to allow this through UAC on Vista.
Could UAC be blocking Automatic Updates? If so I think this is an issue Avast need to sort.

Did you try delaying the update check (edit avast4.ini) as I suggested ?

I have UAC disabled but it makes no difference in my case. No Avast auto updates.

 :)Ive just found the problem.
It was my Windows firewall. It was also blocking my uTorrent connection.
I set my Firewall to default, not only is uTorrent now working, but my Avast is now updating normally.
Sorry Avast not your fault.

That's good news. How exactly did you set the windows firewall to default?
What flavour of windows are you using? I'm on Vista 32

dsmail...

Go into windows firewall with advanced security.
On the right hand side, under actions you`ll see "restore defaults".

Well, for what it's worth, auto updates are now working fine. The price was a total reinstallation of Vista. I did have other problems also so it's for the best. Only had the PC from new a couple of months!!
