Avast entries in sound scheme
« on: May 01, 2004, 02:38:13 PM »
Hi folks-
I recently uninstalled avast for a friend. (Not for me, I love it)

I used Add/Remove and the removal tool just for good measure.
(In fact, I had the same quirk after uninstalling avast and then reinstalling to correct a problem)
(Both Computers in question using XP Pro)

Anyway, I noticed that going to: "my computer, control panel, sounds",  that avast entries are still listed in the sounds scheme.

The actual avast sounds are gone, but the avast options to apply sounds are still there. (I believe you could sill apply a Windows Sound to one of the avast options-Not that it would be of any use with the program gone).

Just curious though....Any way to remove those entries short of a painstaking search of the registry?

Thanks for any thoughts.  ;)

Yeah, I've noticed that too... and that's not the only case with avast!

Most programs leave after uninstalling them sound entries listed in sound scheme. Usually, I search registry for those, but now, I don't think it's so important to loose my time searching and deleting for those thing. Anyway, if you have uninstalled avast!, you won't use those sounds anymore... they will be just listed in sounds scheme just like all other sounds from some other programs that you uninstalled before...

Wait for answer from somebody from our beloved Alwil team, I'm sure they'll respond very soon...

Cheers !

Thanks for the reply S.Z.Craftec...

Yes, it's really no big deal at all. I'm just one of those 'Nuts" that always wants an explanation for unsolved mysteries.

My wife says I need to get over it......She's probably right.  ::)  ;D

Well, no problem at all... I'm pretty annoyed with programs that have nasty habbit to leave "tails" behind themselves, when you uninstall them. It would be great, if uninstallation program remembers every single thing that installed on our systems in the first place. When you leave someone's house, you don't wanna leave mess in there... it's just not nice... right ? So, that's why I expect from every single program to perform total, complet and unconditioned uninstall when you want to remove it...

I still believe someone from Alwil will respond to your request...

Greets!

S.Z.Craftec,
I just can't resist jumping in here.
I agree with you 1000%. But, if every one did exactly what they are supposed to do, this would be a perfect world.
Then we wouldn't need any police or army and we certainly wouldn't need any Politicians. >:(
And if everything would always be done right, you wouldn't need virus checkers   and then, we wouldn't have these forums.
You really don't want that do you??? ;D ;D

It's not the easier or best way but you can manually delete the entries from Windows Registry (HKEY_CURRENT_USER\AppEvents).
