Persistent "mail support"
« on: February 08, 2009, 03:32:16 PM »
I've got "Mail Support" in Avast's preferences unchecked, but Mail.app keeps launching, anyway, whenever I restart my Mac. When I check Avast preferences
"Mail Support" is checked (enabled") even though I haven't touched it. This glitch began occurring just recently.
Is this a known issue with Avast for Mac? Anything I can do fix this or work around it? It's very annoying. This is Avast V.2.70. Hopefully this bug will not appear in the upcoming new version.

This is a known bug and will be fixed in the new release when it comes out.

Hallo,
this not "bug", rather an annoying sideeffect of AppleScript binding (it's not avast directly, who starts the app). If you don't want this to occur, you can go to Applications/avast!.app, ctrl-click, show package contents, then go to Contents, Resources, and here, rename or delete the "GetRuleScript.txt" file.

It's rather a feature, than a "known bug". Under some circumstances, Mail doesn't obey apple-script hint to remove its rule, and then, avast checks again, what's the real state, and sets the checked/unchecked state in its own preferences, to reflect reality. thus, it's better to blame Mail app, not avast, inthis case.

what to do? manipulate the rule in mail's preferences instead (and yes, avast will reflect the change).
