Cannot Use Manual Update: "Access Is Denied"

Since yesterday, when I try opening avast I get the message:

The system cannot open the device or file specified. Program cannot set property into main Storage.
 

And when I try to use manual update, I get the message "Access is denied". And the following from View Log:

Also, I use Threatfire as well. My system is Windows XP

I think the problem might be that the main application is an old version. Can you try a couple of things, please. Select "updating" and "program update" and see if that goes through. If so, you should be sorted.
If not, can you go to the computer control panel, add remove programs, select Avast, change/remove, and at the prompt, select "repair".

Can you send me setup.log from avast4\setup folder? I'll check it for more details what happened before the update.

It seems that the program folder (or avast4\setup) is corrupted, according to this log record:
IsInstalledPartVpuOkay: C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\Setup\part-prg_av_pro-537.vpu does not exist

If you can access the add/remove program control panel, uninstall avast, restart, then install the latest version again.

In case it doesn't help, download avast uninstall utility here:
http://www.avast.com/eng/avast-uninstall-utility.html
Boot into safe mode, run aswClear.exe and press button Uninstall.
Restart again to normal mode and install the latest version.

I suggest you take advantage of Forejt's offer to examine the complete contents of the setup.log from avast4\setup folder, email it as an attached file to his email address, click on the envelope icon in his details to the left of his post.

As one of the Alwil software, avast developers Forejt is more qualified than us mere mortals to try and analyse the log file..
