I need help.
« on: February 11, 2009, 04:45:06 PM »
Hi, I am using Vista and have been using avast for two months now. I have used it on many other computers and different OS's and i think its great ive never had a problem until now. I had to do a system recovery on my computer and avast has stopped woking. it wont let me uninstall nor will it let me reinstall. any advice as to what i should do because i trully do apreciate this program and would hate to have to spend days trying to find something inferior. thanks.

Well doing a system recovery can have some strange an undesired impact, depending on how far back you go, programs installed after that could be impacted.

Why won't it let you uninstall or install, what error messages, etc. ?

It might be best to do a clean reinstall:
Download the latest version of avast http://www.avast.com/eng/download-avast-home.html and save it to your HDD, somewhere you can find it again. Use that when you reinstall.

Download the avast! Uninstall Utility, find it here and save it to your HDD.

1. Now uninstall (using add remove programs, if you can't do that start from the next step), reboot.
2. run the avast! Uninstall Utility, reboot.  If step 1 failed it may be necessary to run this from safe mode, once complete reboot into normal mode.
3. install the latest version, reboot.

I have only been on-line for a little over 30 minutes (shortly after booting) and Mem Usage is 94,300K and VM Size is 82,996K with 9 tabs open (lots of add-ons ).
That's why I don't use FF anymore since 2 years ago (after using it for like 4 years)  ;D. FYI, I'm using Opera 9.63 now and there's 70+ windows (with 1000+ tabs!) opened simultaneously and the whole memory footprint only 1 GB (I'm using 2 GB of memory on Windows XP). So yes, Opera is good! ;D

What has this to do with this topic, it has no bearing at all on what is being discussed and the quote you give doesn't appear anywhere in this topic.

So I can only conclude you have posted in the wrong topic.
