error 1006 when trying to put avast on my computer
« on: January 29, 2009, 03:17:44 AM »

Problems putting Avast Home Edition on our new hard drive.

System:  Windows XP Pro

Setup Selfextract

An error 1006 (000003EE) has occured.
   Last preformed operation was:
   Opening the self-extract archive

Try to download setup file again.
If you use Internet Explorer, clear it’s cache before downloading:
Start->Control Panel->Internet Options and Delete Temporary Internet Files.

Have tried loading Avast home edition onto our computer nine times in the last 2 days. Have used Firefox  and Internet Explorer,  I receive the same error message.  Have even tried to download from various links. Have even sent for the Registration Key, thinking perhaps I needed to do this first.

Any suggestions as to what might work?

Thank you,

Please advise if you have gotten this fixed.
