Best performance for low profile system
« on: February 22, 2009, 12:59:08 PM »
I have avast! installed on my Aspire One but i want to make as little drag as possible with avast!.

So i've disabled everything on this page. But here i'd need a comment from ALWIL guys.
How much am i compromising security by doing this? EICAR sample was detected but i'm not sure if actual malware will be stopped for sure (and for good). However i don't want my netbook to be slower than my cellphone...

I use the same configuration. I think the protection is enough in this situation as, when executed, malware will be detected.

Well I feel the disabling of created/modified (more the modified) could leave you vulnerable to the likes of Vitus and Vitro, file infectors if the source file isn't detected, it could run through the system like wild fire.

I would say leave the Scan created/modified files option enabled, set to Only selected files, default extension set.

Though for someone of your experience avoidance would be some help, backed up with a good recovery strategy (drive imaging software) so go a long way to protecting your system or giving you a way out.

Well, if file is not detected at execution, it's quite unlikely it'll be detected later. Though that isn't necessary i guess...

Just to correct... right now, in my new notebook, I have enough space and performance to let that options on...
