Virus not detected on On-access scanner (4.8 home)
« on: February 23, 2009, 06:09:47 AM »
hi guys, I believe my on-access scanner is not working as when i run a virus prone file it allows it to run without any alert.
I check under resident shield, it states scanned file = 0 and it is enabled.

The virus can only be detected when i right click and choose scan with Avast anti virus.

I am running the latest version which was downloaded yesterday..

Any ideas?

We will need more information to be able to help you:
- Which OS are you using? Is it up to date?
- Do you have any other antivirus installed in your system?  Did you have in the past?
- Any other security programs that could interfere?

Can you try to repair your installation?
Go to Control Panel > Add/Remove programs > avast! antivirus > Remove. Then choose Repair function in the popup window (Repair).
If this does not help, can you uninstall / boot / install / boot again?

thanks for the reply

My OS is WinXP with SP2.

I have Symantec endpoint installed before that and uninstalled as it cannot detect some of the virus that was in my com for ages.
No other security software in it. I had remove endpoint totally with the removal tool.

I did a uninstall and reinstall, reboot and it doesnt work. It shows resident scan count 0

Sorry, to insist...

1) Remove NAV or Norton 360 through Add/Remove programs from Control Panel. Boot.
2) Use Norton Removal Tool for Windows 2000/XP/Vista or Norton Removal Tool for Windows 98/Me. Boot.
3) Install avast! (or repair the installation) and boot.

The Norton Removal Tool uninstalls all Norton 2008/2007/2006/2005/2004/2003 products and Norton 360 from your computer.

Also, you can try an avast installation from the scratch:

1. Uninstall avast from Control Panel first.
2. Boot.
3. Download the latest version of Avast Uninstall and use it for complete uninstallation.
4. Boot.
5. Install again the latest avast! version.
6. Boot.
7. Check and post the results.

Are you installing avast in the default path?
Are you registering (adding the license key) to your avast installation?

What browser are you using ?

Do you have to use a proxy (web accelerator, ISP)to connect to the internet ?
Windows 10 Home 64bit/ Acer Aspire F15/ Intel Core i5 7200U 2.5GHz, 8GB DDR4 memory, 256GB SSD, 1TB HDD/ avast! free 24.3.6108 (build 24.3.8975.762) UI 1.0.801/ Firefox, uBlock Origin, uMatrix/ MailWasher Pro/ Avast! Mobile Security

i am using firefox 3.0.6

and i install the AV into its default path.

I believe that the Antivirus is been affected by advance system care? as i cant access microsoft webpage without a proxy where usual i could before using that.

Please, post the last 300-350 lines of avast log: C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\DATA\log\Setup.log

mgear356, your log seems ok... I'm empty... can't guess what's going wrong. Maybe your system is infected and preventing avast to be correctly installed. I suggest a full computer on-line scanning:
Kaspersky
ESET NOD32
Trendmicro housecall
F-Secure
BitDefender

Or, read the instructions, download and burn (maybe from another computer), finally use one of this rescue CD's:
1. Avira
2. Kaspersky
3. BitDefender
4. F-Secure
5. Dr. Web
