Since Avast 5.0 will not support my windows ME, should I now, shut off Automatic updating (no one knows when 5.0 will come down the slot). If I don't turn it off, and It autodownloads the new version and installs it, What will happen ??? :o

You really need to read the other topic (to which you have contributed) again on this as it contains the answers to your question.

Version 4.8 would continue to support win9x and winME for VPS updates (and possibly program updates) for some time yet. So you as a winME use I would have thought wouldn't be installing 5.0 but continue as normal with 4.8 with auto update checks for VPS and the default Ask for program updates.

I see no point in disabling something which may continue to be used as normal.

Windows 10 Home 64bit/ Acer Aspire F15/ Intel Core i5 7200U 2.5GHz, 8GB DDR4 memory, 256GB SSD, 1TB HDD/ avast! free 24.3.6108 (build 24.3.8975.762) UI 1.0.801/ Firefox, uBlock Origin, uMatrix/ MailWasher Pro/ Avast! Mobile Security

You don't have to worry about the updates.
The update from 4.8 to 5.0 will not be the usual program update; so, even if you have it set to automatic, you won't be updated to 5.0 on an unsupported OS, thus rendering the installation invalid.
