I did like Flashget much, but I find hard to use the 3.0 beta, since I found orbit downloader so simple and safe, I use it for a while now.

I didn't like the early versions of flashget and tried others, the one I have been using for a long time without problem (and no phoning home on my system) is Orbit Downloader.

Well I had and have Free Download Manager which works great but there are some downloads it won't handle. So I tried Orbit which worked fine and did what I wanted it to do but because of the whole deal with the Firewall I have un-installed it.

Oh well, I'll look for something else.

I am using FDM for a long time without any problem & it has lots of features that any download manager can ever have. You u please tell which type of downloads FDM can't handle but orbit can?

it`s the blasted FLV downloads. I have news shows I watch at home but download at university because of my limited band width. FDM used to work great but now it isn`t working any more. I can use RealPlayer to download the videos but this takes up intirely too much time.

FDM used to allow me to make a list of downloads I wanted and then do them in one shot. Orbit does this well but I din`t use too much because of the affore mentioned issue with the fire wall.

for the time being i`ll try to fin another solution otherwise I'll just use Real Player to do the downloads.

Well I use it because of the codec that allows to download FLV videos. Otherwise I mostly use GOM player to run the flv files. I also have WMP clasic but this I use for formats that couldn`t be played by the previous two.

PS My computer is used for other things other than watching videos. I simply don`t have cable so my comp is my source of information written and otherwise.

I encountered a problem with orbit after I switched from Windows 7 RC to Retail. There is a conflict with the Hosts file. Some sites load and others don't don't. Disabling or deleting the Host file get rid of the problem. There doesn't seem to be any thing that is common about them.

If u are using Firefox, Downthemall add-on is quite good on downloading large files^^

Who's HOSTS file do you use?

I use HostMan to manage my HOSTS file that uses hpHosts and MVPS HOSTS files as input plus I use HostsServer as a browser speedup proxy with its logging capability to show the HOSTS file's effect:
