Not a great fan of Windows Live Mail and its DeltaSync for Hotmail.  But then not the greatest fan of MS software that believes you must access email accounts one after the other - in an incredibly slow fashion.

I far prefer Thunderbird and its access multiple accounts simultaneously.  Plus add-ons in Thunderbird allow me to access Yahoo free accounts via POP including junk folder (and have them scanned by avast).  Plus ad-ons in Thunderbird allow me to access Hotmail free accounts via POP including junk folder (and have them scanned by avast).  I can tell the same story for GMail too.

Well 'nuf said.

I know Webmail add-on, but which one do use that let avast! to scan mails? I've tried that and avast! did not scan mails

Call me old fashioned. Forte Agent since 1995.

I did not know that, it seems good one, I'll try that :) ;)

I only use web based email as it is the safest way to use email.

On my Vista system I use Windows Mail and on my XP Pro system I use OE and both augmented with OE-QuoteFix
Quote
Description

OE-QuoteFix will extend the functionality of MS Outlook Express in numerous ways! Its main purpose is to modify message composition windows on-the-fly to allow for correct quoting and to change the appearance of your plain-text replies and forwards in general: move your signature, use compressed indentation, have RFC compliant signatures, etc.
But the second feature is equally practical: OE-QuoteFix can instantly color quoted passages (according to the level of indentation), fix bad quoting and generally beautify messages as you view them in Outlook Express.

To get avast to scan emails delivered on localhost connections (using products like YPops, FreePops or the Thunderbird Webmail add-ons) you need to uncheck the "Ignore local communication" box in the Redirect tab of the Internet Mail provider.

While I usually 'check' my mail on a web-based platform, I always use Outlook Express 6 to grab an archival copy of messages in my Earthlink email account. (Earthlink, by the way, has been doing an excellent job of blocking junk mail)

I get a lot of attached documents that I must keep. OE has a really nice feature for my needs; Subfolders each get their own DBX file in my mail storage folder. They're easy to backup and re-import to another PC if the need arises.

Hotmail finally offering POP/IMAP access!

... and it's about bleeding time. Though this has been available via Outlook (courtesy of the Outlook Connector), this hasn't been viable for those either;

1. Without Outlook
2. Unwilling/unable to install the connector
3. Unaware of the connector
4. Wanting to access the accounts via script

Now that they are offering this for all accounts without requiring this, it now means everyone and their dog can access their accounts via whichever program they choose, or if they so wish, via their own custom scripts/programs.

Using WebMail to view your email does not download the messages to your PC. Instead, you are using an email program on the server designed for viewing, replying, deleting, and sending email directly from the mail server.
