Spybot S&D not recommended anymore?

I thought this was supposed to be a good anti-malware program?

Not anymore... the development is slow, the spyware signatures are covered faster and better by other products. For on-demand scanning, well, you can still use it from time to time...
Indeed, we recommend MBAM and Superantispyware on-demand. Both free.
The best things in life are free.

Two things surprised me on the MSVP.org site 1) they didn't mention SuperAntiSpyware and 2) they really slated Windows Defender, big surprise for mvps's ;D

Windows Defender (freeware - Vista/XP)
Microsoft's program includes "real-time" protection, however it does poorly in real-world test results.

Personally I'm not surprised about Windows Defender I never rated it very highly, I'm just surprised that it would be said by mvsp's.

The problem is using a product in isolation to all intents and purposes its OK, but when compared against the likes of MBAM an SAS it isn't so good. However S&D still serves a purpose, but I wouldn't have it as mu only anti-spyware.

Hi malware fighters,

Not if you combine MBAM and SAS together with SpywareBlaster, who needs Spybot S&D then?
Especially as long as I can have COMODO BoClean with it, but I have to find another program to replace this as it will be discontinued I think  as a free stand-alone tool in the future with CIS, which could be  a pity actually. RUBotted is still sitting there, that is my daily anti-malware formula next to avast and clam-win non-residental.
A-squared improved lately after Icarus joined them, but for Spybot S&D I haven't seen such a development, so "a hit from the past", it could not keep up with recent developments in the field,

Even if you got the best anti spyware of the world i didnt think you will catch all spywares because there a lot ppl that they hide it

Windows Defender is not bad for pop ups, slow performance and spyware i didnt say its the best but well what you will choice to having 0 anti spyware or windows defender ? i think you know what i mean its better to have a anti virus, spyware + firewall in any way to having 0 of them lol

Spybot S&D is getting long in the tooth and not as good as it used to be.

Windows Defender is good if it is updated at least daily through its portal:
http://www.microsoft.com/security/portal

End Windows Defender then select the latest 32 bit update then Run it then restart it.
Latest is v1.53.638.0

Yes, Windows Defender can detect some worms.

The important thing to realise, for anyone who is a bit new to the world of computer threats and security, is that there are literally thousands of new malware threats (incl worms, trojans, malicious scripts for downloading same, viruses etc) released every day.
No one application (nor, perhaps, any combination of applications) can get them all. Nor get any of them the moment they are unleashed on the web.
The best the average user can do is use two or three good programs that update frequently, and are well supported, and keep Windows seriously up to date. That strategy will probably block maybe 97% of the nasties. You still read about the other 3% who have been unlucky - scored what's known as a zero day threat (newly released; nothing detects it. Yet.)
For those kind of threats, to be safe and secure you really need a behavioral analysis or HIPS type program.
Windows 10,Windows Firewall,Firefox w/Adblock.

Yeah, it's good, (if the applications are good, and the system set up to be resilient) (and the user isn't click-happy) but it's not foolproof. And it would be a mistake to think it is.
