Archived Files - Password Protected???
« on: March 31, 2009, 02:55:03 PM »
Hi.  New User here.  Ran thorough scan using latest free version and in the results there were 245 filed that were labeled 'unable to scan - password protected'.  The files were a mixed bag of dll, jpg, htm, vbs, etc, etc, etc.

Two questions:
What does Avast consider 'archived files' and
How can these 'archived files' be password protected?

Most were in the directory 'volume information'.

system info: Windows XP SP2, Intel Celeron 3.2Ghz, 768Mb RAM

NOTE:  All other (except Avast) security programs have been uninstalled and registry cleaned.

THANKS!

See http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=35347.msg297170#msg297170 this topic for more information on why files can't be scanned.

Files that can't be scanned are just that, not an indication they are suspicious/infected, just unable to be scanned.

Archive files typically zip, rar, cab and exe files where they are installation files, but there are many others.
Windows 10 Home 64bit/ Acer Aspire F15/ Intel Core i5 7200U 2.5GHz, 8GB DDR4 memory, 256GB SSD, 1TB HDD/ avast! free 24.3.6108 (build 24.3.8975.762) UI 1.0.801/ Firefox, uBlock Origin, uMatrix/ MailWasher Pro/ Avast! Mobile Security

I wonder how many times you pasted that from your scripts... lol.
